Capture
{short description of image}{short description of image}
Capturing video to the hard disk in your computer is the first step in nonlinear video editing. The new Matrox MediaTools capture application fully automates the DV capture process saving you hours of valuable time. It automatically scans, logs, and batch captures clips, unattended. It also lets you capture still frames to easily create photo montages.

Matrox RT2500 and RT2000 let you work with both analog and digital equipment to get the most from your editing system. You can even mix clips captured from analog video with native-DV clips in the same project.

If you're using DV equipment, the Matrox editing cards let you take advantage of the full video-quality potential of your DV camera. The built-in 1394 port lets you digitally transfer your DV footage to your editing system in its native DV format so there's no recompression or transcoding that can degrade the quality of your video.

If you're working with analog equipment you can choose to capture in DV or in MPEG-2. MPEG-2 I-frame editing lets you capture at high compression ratios so you can fit more video on your hard disk. It's great for off-line editing of long-form programs. You can also capture MPEG-2 IBP clips in realtime for immediate use in you DVD authoring program.

Edit in real time
{short description of image}{short description of image}
As a video editor, your goal is to complete the greatest number of projects, with the highest production values, in the shortest possible time, and have fun doing it. Editing is more productive and more enjoyable when your editing system lets you see the results of your edit decisions immediately; when you have complete creative control; when you AVOID RENDERING!

RT2500 and RT2000 let you work with two video streams plus a graphics/title track, all at the same time, with maximum creative freedom.

You get over 1000 realtime, broadcast-quality 2D and 3D digital video effects and transitions including page curls, organic wipes, particle effects, distortions, 3D tiles, and 2D and 3D DVEs with customizable drop shadows, soft edges, and color borders.

You can even use key frames to size position and rotate your clips in real time to get exactly the look you want. Over 60 of Adobe Premiere's native transitions can also be used in real time.

If you're into effects, the RT2500 and RT2000, with their vast repertoire of dazzling realtime transitions and filters, are definitely the editing platforms for you. But even if you prefer a more conservative look, you can still save countless hours of rendering thanks to the true three-layer realtime editing architecture of the Matrox cards and their essential realtime capabilities such as transparency, colorization, cropping, picture-in-picture, and realtime title preview.

Matrox RT2500 system requirements

Matrox RT2500 requires the following minimum system configuration:
Microsoft Windows 2000 (Service Pack 1 is recommended)1 or Windows Me (Millennium Edition) operating system.
Intel Pentium II CPU, 350 MHz or AMD Athlon CPU.2
256 MB physical memory (RAM).
Free PCI slot.
Display card (Matrox Millennium G450 recommended).
500 MB of free space for software installation on system drive.
Separate hard drive for A/V content.
16-bit soundcard.
CD-ROM drive for software installation.
Video camera or VCR.

Certain complex realtime effects may require a more powerful system. For optimal system performance, we recommend the following configuration:
Pentium III or AMD Athlon CPU, 750 MHz or faster.
DV video camera (to use 1394 connections).
NTSC or PAL video monitor.

Note
   All Matrox RT2500 effects will run on a properly configured computer that meets the minimum system requirements outlined above. Some of the complex effects, however, may cause dropped frames during playback. For those cases, you can use the Force render option to ensure smooth playback without dropped frames. For more information, see your Matrox RT2500 Installation & User Guide.

1 All Matrox testing and validation of compatible motherboards and computer systems is carried out using Windows 2000 with Service Pack 1.

2 The current generation of Intel Celeron processors cannot be used with RT2500 because they have a 66-MHz Front Side Bus whereas RT2500 requires at least a 100-MHz FSB.
